For those that like the good life South Australia is home to some of the best known wine regions in Australia – and, of course, some of the best wines! The world reknowned Barossa Valley is just a hop, skip and a jump from Adelaide.
Alternatively, you can head into the outback Flinders Ranges, or over to Kangaroo Island which is a haven for wildlife, and an excellent place to spend a few relaxing days.
If you are a nature lover, then Kangaroo Island is an absolute must! Native kangaroos, koalas, wombats, seals and echidnas are found in abundance and genuinely in the wild. Take time to explore the island fully – from the unusual rock formations of the Remarkable Rocks, to a stroll down the beach to watch the seals bask.
Outback adventure is never far away in South Australia. Just a few hours drive north of Adelaide, the earth turns red, the sky becomes endless and the outback stretches endlessly into the distance. The Flinders Ranges are home to some spectacular scenery and is most famous for Wilpena Pound - best seen by a 4WD tour or scenic flight. It is also home to a variety of gorges and one of the largest kangaroo populations you’re likely to see.
Head further north and you’ll arrive in Coober Pedy where the population live underground and the main occupation is opal mining - a real Australian experience.
