Rail Journeys
Getting about by rail, either on a day to day basis around cities or on spectacular long distance journeys is a definite positive travel option in Australia.
Around the five major cities, rail networks connect the suburbs and local towns with the city centres, the train service on these networks is typically good and cost effective. Funding for rail infrastructure is on a par with that of roads - indeed new road development often comes (where appropriate) with a rail track running down the middle.
For longer distances, it is all about enjoying the journey - this is because it is generally cheaper to fly so the train operators have to compete on quality. So, whilst the on board, you can marvel at the spectacular Australian landscapes - from red-hued vistas and magnificent gorges to pristine coastline - and enjoy some of life's little luxuries.
