Overall I really really recommend Emirates - the booking process was smooth, the aircraft were well equipped and the staff and service was first rate. The pricing was ballpark with all the other carriers.
This was the second time in a year that we made the trip. This time it was one-way!
We made our sad goodbyes at Gatwick airport late on Saturday morning. We had pre-booked seats (call Emirates once you've made your booking), so we knew that we wouldn't be split up. As we are five (in a world built for four) we had 3 seats by the window and two of the aisle seats - this worked fine.
The flight was slightly delayed – not a great start when taking three young children half way around the world! However the service (in the back) was excellent. The kids were plied with many gifts (magazines, soft toys, etc.) – but, best of all was the seat back entertainment, with literally 100’s of self-controlled channels which kept all three entertained through to Dubai.
As we were late arriving, we ran between flights (fortunately the airline held the Dubai to Perth leg back a bit as so many “Europeans” were slightly delayed.)
Then an uneventful second leg to Perth, much of it with the kids asleep (love it when a plan comes together!) We actually arrived slightly early, downhill I suspect…
Perth airport was very good - it's small so no real hold ups. The Aussie's are very strict on bringing fruit and stuff into their country, so we had to throw some stuff away - no dramas as they say.
Best Bits - The kids - absolutely no problems what so ever taking children aged six, four and two around the world - didn't expect that !
Hundreds of channels on demands from the seat back entertainment, loads of games and children's programmes to keep the little darlings happy.
Not having to go to Heathrow !
Worst Bits - You can't get away from it, Australia is a long way away from the UK.
