“Getting around...”
Australia is a big place; it is a huge place, so it is wise to make the journey part of your fun. The good news is that getting around the place is easy. Here are your options...
Air
There is plenty of competition amongst Australia’s domestic airlines, so getting around particularly from city to city is pretty cheap, fast and convenient. Distances are vast some time is of the essence air travel is probably the best way to go. Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Blue amongst others all compete, keeping prices down. If you are traveling from overseas, flying is most likely your option of choice nowadays - as arriving by boat won't make you overly popular at the moment unless you are just passing through...
Car Rental
A convenient way to see the sights at your own pace, fuel is relatively cheap depending where you are coming from and the road network is first rate. Like air travel, there is much competition in the car rental market with Thrifty, Budget, Hertz, Avis or more all battling it out for your hard earned dollars. It often makes sense to fly and then rent a car at your destination - no-one drives from Perth to Surfers and back in a week...
Camping and Campervan Rental
A great way to tour Australia is in your own campervan. Camping and Caravanning being something of a national pass-time (add in barbeques, fishing and surfing!) This means that the country is ideally set up for self drive exploration and renting a campervan enables just the right mix of luxury, flexibility and convenience. Campervans come in all shapes and sizes, the two major providers are
Apollo Motohomes Australia
and Britz.
Train
Australia offers some epic train journeys, classic trips can be found traversing the country north to south, east to west or along the coasts. The Ghan and The Indian Pacific are two names synonymous with the best in rail travel. The Sunlander and the Tilt Train are great ways to get up and down the Queensland coast. Trains are also a convenient option in and around the major cities.
Tours
Want to know a secret? - being a tour guide is a top job for an Aussie bloke - not only does he get to sample fantastic scenery day in day out - the main customers of tours are young ladies on holiday - this is why our tour guides all look so happy! That said, tours are not just for the young - most operate with a nice mix of people and it becomes as much about your fellow travelers as the tour itself.
