I can still recall my old geography teacher explaining the difference between stalactites and stalagmites (in between going bright red due to the ineptitude of his pupils...)
Stalactites hang down (as they are "holding on tight") and stalagmites, well they are the other ones. You should get both together as the drips from the one feed the other. Anyway, enough of that.
So, at Ngilgi caves you will see lot of stalactites and stalagmites. There are lots of caves running down the Margaret River peninsular, but as Ngilgi is only one I've visited, I can't vouch for the others...
Ngilgi (named after a good aboriginal spirit) is an easily accessible fairly deep and large cave. My three young kids had no problem negotiating their way down the steps. It is well lit up, well, very cave like...
Caves are not really my thing, so thankfully this one didn't involve any crawling through tight tunnels, waist high in freezing water...although I'm sure that if you are that way inclined then there are adventurous options that you can take.
There was a small picnic area, plus shop / cafe located on the site.
Best Bits - Easily accessible, large cave.
Worst Bits - I'm not overly keen on caves!
