We arrived at Perth Zoo after catching a ferry from the city, it is then about a 10 minute walk - or less if you don't go the wrong way around... (cut across the park when you get to the big cross roads, past the big pub on the corner of Mends Street and Mill Point Road.
It is very reasonably priced for a whole day out - I paid $50 for a family of five (youngest was free.)
As a zoo it is very good, the animals are all very well looked after, their enclosures are seem very roomy. It is as first world as a zoo can get.
The main attraction for us tourists was the native area, where kangaroos roam about and there are koalas, wombats and dingos.
For the locals there is an African area, featuring the lions, rhinoceros, giraffe and zebra. The Asian area has the elephants, tigers and monkeys. Then there is the bird house and the reptile area (crocs...)
It is all very well set out, the flora is wonderful, there are lots of shady areas and well kept picnic lawns. It didn't feel crowded at all and I doubt that it ever does.
You can certainly spend a whole day at Perth Zoo and keep yourself highly entertained - we, somewhat predictably, were the last to leave.
Best Bits - Well laid out, modern zoo with lovely gardens.
Worst Bits - Wasn't overly impressed with cafes - bring a picnic.
