I was inspired to visit the Valley of the Giants by Bill Bryson in his book "Down Under." Mr Bryson described the tree top walk at the Valley of Giants as deserving to be world famous. I can't disagree. I wholeheartedly do agree.
It's a fantastic place. Surrounded by awesome (sounding a bit American myself now - but awesome works) tingle trees that have been growing for tens of thousands of years and now survive only here, in this tiny bit of Australia. The trees are big, very big and very humbling. The walk way itself is 40 meters in the air, even then you are not looking down at the trees. If you have my head for heights you're not looking down.
Despite my ineptitude in the air, it was a great experience, grounding would be a good way to describe it.
The Aussie staff, as ever, were great. We saw three workmen hanging under one of the pillars - "can you fix it, Bob?" - "yes we can!" Then in the shop the assistant gave me an information sheet about how the attraction came into being, information kept under the desk obviously reserved for people who could care less.
The trees, the forest, what a place, I hope that you can enjoy the pictures as they say much more than words can.
Best Bits - A two day round trip and the whole family agreed that it was well worth the "effort" - must admit before getting there I had been getting a wee bit nervous...
Worst Bits - None. Honest. Go there.
