I really like Yallingup beach. A like it more before the surf dumped me repeated yesterday, but on reflection, this was undoubtably my own fault. Being the one person in SW Australia who can't surf - intend to recify this!
What is great about Yallingup is that it ticks all the boxes.
It has a playground that the kids with love - based around a woooden ship.
It has showers, toilets and barbies. Plenty of parking is available.
All this stuff is pretty superfluous for a beach...but on beachiness, Yallingup does deliver.
From the main car park, walk down the steps onto the squeaky clean white sand. The sea here is protected by a reef, so is ideal for small kids and for snorkling. The other side of the reef, not very far out, is where the big girls and boys play in the world class surf.
World class surf, pretty much says it all, obviously depends on the conditions, but even in the summer there seems to be suffient "chop" to get folks out there.
Walk north a couple of hundred yards (north) and the reef ends and the "fun" begins. This is where the surf breaks on the beach and easily is accessible to all. It is great fun, but can get very powerful. Very powerful. It is here where skim boards and body boards come out, or just enjoy being part of nature's big washing machine. Be warned - great fun, but can hurt. A lot! Be careful.
On from here the beach continues north up to the Cape. Worth mentioning that there is another car park further along for this part of the beach and it is here that you can officially take the dog. Then there is a further car park used mainly for the cape to cape trek.
Love Yallingup, and there's lot of other great beaches to love around here, like Smiths a short walk away to the south.
Best Bits - Something for everyone. Unbelievably beautiful sunsets.
Worst Bits - Umm - no good if you don't like sand...
